What is parking?

Parking means to stop a vehicle in a particular place (such as at the side of a road or in a parking area) and to leave it there for a time. Parking includes situations where the driver does not leave the vehicle.

Parking infringement

A parking infringement is defined as parking a vehicle or leaving it standing in breach of:

  • the rules set out in a council controlled area
  • a local law made by a council
  • the road rules or regulations
  • any other Act, regulation, rule or by-law.

It does not matter whether any person is in the vehicle or not.
