VLA doesn't get funding for plaintiffs who are seeking damages or recovery of property involved in motor vehicle accidents. A grant may be available for a defendant but only if they face an immediate risk of losing their sole place of residence. They must also have strong prospect of success.

However if someone has been charged with a criminal offence, VLA may be able to help if:

  • the person risks going to jail for the offence if convicted
  • if there are special circumstances.

The person will also have to meet the income and merit test requirements, before a grant will made.
