There is no income test for inpatients

There is no income test for inpatients calling from a mental health hospital who are seeking a visiting appointment or duty lawyer service.

There is no income test for inpatients calling from a mental health hospital who are seeking a visiting appointment or duty lawyer service. These matters are exempt from the means test. It is very important that such vulnerable clients do not miss out on a service.

When Legal Help staff are referring a client to the Mental health and disability team or to a regional office, no questions have to be asked about income when completing the further assessment.

Note: The means test does apply if the person is applying for a grant of aid.
