Robot lawyers Australia

This commercial site, established by Doogue O'Brien George defence lawyers, is designed to help people to prepare their plea material if they are representing themselves in court and are preparing to plead guilty. This site asks a set of questions that the client must answer about their matter, their financial and personal circumstances and what they have learned from the offending. This is emailed back to the client to help them to prepare what they want to say in court.

This tool allows people to access legal assistance before they go to court. Once they receive a summons to appear at court the person can register to get help from a lawyer in advance. This helps to make sure they are as prepared as they can be by the day of their court hearing. They will have an opportunity to gather all of the necessary paperwork and are aware of what to expect at their hearing.

This will provide a better experience for the person and will help the courts operate more efficiently.

To register the person charged provide some basic details, and their request goes directly through to the VLA summary crime team. The tool is available on the Magistrates' Court website.

Law Institute Victoria

The Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) Legal Referral Service provides client referrals to lawyers across Victoria. The referral service operates a telephone service during business hours and an online service through the LIV website.

Referrals are tailored to meet client needs and provide a listing of up to three law firms practising in a particular area of law. All law firms participating in the referral service undertake to see clients for the first 30 minutes free of charge. This interview can be used to determine the nature of the legal issue and discuss the available options. Normal fees are charged after the first 30 minutes or if work needs to be prepared on the client’s behalf.
