Marriage equality

The Act amending the Marriage Act 1961, to allow people to marry regardless of their gender, commenced on 9 December 2017.

The Act amending the Marriage Act 1961, to allow people to marry regardless of their gender, commenced on 9 December 2017. Couples who intend to marry may download a Notice of Intended Marriage form from the Attorney-General's website. This form then needs to be lodged with a marriage celebrant. A couple can marry one month after lodging this form.
