Road Safety Act 1986 (Vic)

This Act aims to provide for safe, efficient and equitable road use. It sets out the general obligations of road users and the procedures for the registration of motor vehicles and the licensing of drivers.

Road Safety (Drivers) Regulations 2019 (Vic)

These Regulations set out requirements for drivers licences and the different rules that apply to licences of novice drivers. They also explains the circumstances for cancellation, suspension and addition of demerit points. The offences that attract demerit points to a drivers licence are listed in Schedule 3.

Fines Reform and Infringements Acts Amendment Act 2016 (Vic)

This Act makes amendments to the Infringements Act that provide temporary procedures that to assist vulnerable people such as new oversight powers for internal review decision-making, introduction of the work and development permit scheme, and improving prisoners' ability to call in fines.

It also amends the Fines Reform Act 2014 to delay the default commencement date until 31 December 2016 to allow the necessary infrastructure to be established. It introduces measures designed to make the fines system fairer for vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community.

Fines Reform Act 2014 (Vic)

This Act establishes a new fines recovery model for the collection and enforcement of both court fines and infringements. It also creates a role of Director of Fines Victoria, who will have oversight of the scheme. It makes amendments to the Infringeme nts Act 2006, but will work in tandem with this existing Act.

Infringements Act 2006 (Vic)

This Act provides a framework for issuing and serving infringement notices, penalty reminder notices and for payment plans and internal review. It also explains the expiation of demerit points.
