Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act 2012 (Vic)

This Act protects consumers by regulating trade practices and providing codes of practices that businesses must comply with. It also sets out the powers and functions of Consumer Affairs Victoria. This Act repeals the Fair Trading Act 1999 (Vic).

Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth)

This Act establishes a register of personal property securities. This includes all property that is not real estate (land or buildings). It allows for tracking to see whether any registered property is subject to any mortgages. lien or loan agreements that create an interest in personal property.

This Act regulates pawnbrokers and second-hand dealers. It aims to protect consumers who deal with pawnbrokers and assists with quick recovery of stolen goods.

These regulations set out the details that have to be recorded, the offences that can be dealt with by infringements under the Act, forms and the way that goods that have not been collected may be disposed of.
