Road Safety Act 1986 (Vic)

This Act aims to provide for safe, efficient and equitable road use. It sets out the general obligations of road users and the procedures for the registration of motor vehicles and the licensing of drivers.

Road Safety (Drivers) Regulations 2019 (Vic)

These Regulations set out requirements for drivers licences and the different rules that apply to licences of novice drivers. They also explains the circumstances for cancellation, suspension and addition of demerit points. The offences that attract demerit points to a drivers licence are listed in Schedule 3.

Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2021 (Vic)

These regulations establish a permit and registration system for vehicles and trailers that are used on Victoria's roads. The purpose is to make sure that motor vehicles are registered and that they meet the standards required. The regulations also provide for records to be made of registered vehicles and the names and addresses of people who are responsible for them.

This Act governs the process of dealing with people who have been accused of an offence, particularly where the accused is accused in one state and is arrested in another.

National Transport Commission (Road Transport Legislation – Driver Licensing) Regulations 2006 (Cth)

This model legislation as been made under the National Transport Commission Act 2003 and is supported by an Intergovernmental Agreement between the commonwealth and all states and territories. It acts as a reference point for the development of all state and territory road regulations.
