Corrections Act 1986 (Vic)

This Act provides for the establishment, management and security of prisons and the welfare of prisoners. It also provides for the administration of services related to community-based corrections and for the welfare of offenders.

It also establishes the victims register.

Corrections Regulations 2019 (Vic)

These regulations provide for the management, administration and security of prisons including prison discipline, the conduct of Governor's hearings, children of prisoners and prison visits. They provide for the welfare of prisoners and offenders and prescribe various forms.

Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic)

This Act sets out the Human Rights Charter (the Charter) which obliges public authorities to take into consideration when they are making decis ions. It also gives the courts the power to interpret and apply legislation in accordance with human rights that are set out in the Charter.

Parliament must also consider whether legislation complies with the Charter when it is making new laws.

Administrative Law Act 1978 (Vic)

This Act sets out the process for reviewing an administrative decision by an administrative tribunal or by a public body (individual or group of individuals) who have made a decision where they are required to follow the rules of natural justice.
