Advertising to give or sell a dog or cat?

From 1 July 2019, anyone who wants to advertise to sell or give away a dog or cat must be registered on the pet exchange register first.

From 1 July 2019, anyone who wants to advertise to sell or give away a dog or cat must be registered on the pet exchange register first. After registering the person will be issued with a source number.

Registration is free for the first year of operation. (A fee will be introduced next year). When placing an ad, the seller or gifter must include thier source number and the animal's microchip number.

A person who advertises without a source number can be fined up to 5 penalty units (or 20 penalty units for a body corporate). The penalty for selling of giving away an animal without a microchip is 10 penalty units.
